Our Approach
Our Story
Looking at the Watershed As a whole.........
Flooding in the Cedar River Watershed is an entire watershed problem. Flooding is a challenge in all 4 Counties. Those challenging areas include; City of Blooming Prairie, the Oaks Golf Course in Dodge County, rural areas north of Austin along the Cedar, City of Austin, rural areas south of Austin along the Rose Creek and Cedar River. This is not just an Austin problem, we all live downstream. We need to become skilled at managing our surface waters to benefit the entire watershed.
Benefits of a Watershed District
- One board of appointed officials has a focused effort on surface watershed management in the Cedar River Watershed.
- Landowners in the upper reaches of the watershed have the greatest opportunity to participate in many conservation practices/programs in controlling surface water runoff and improving water quality in the most cost effective manner.
- Focused efforts on water control through conservation practices.
- To become a priority watershed for future funding opportunities in conservation.
- Improved water quality.
- To work towards the best possible conditions for the best possible drainage in relationship to flooding.
